Orca (by Jonathan Ball)
People seem to enjoy when I post progress shots, so here’s the progress for a picture I did for Renard as an “Happy Early Christmas” present. Even though this was a gift he was pretty specific with what he wanted so I sent him WIP shots while I did this.
To start, we have my idea for the outfit. He linked me to a jacket to base it off of and I added some of my own ideas (such as the fur cap to replace the usual nurse hat) and came up with this.
Next was the first attempt, but it didn’t have the feeling or personality in it he was hoping for. I agreed, and scrapped this drawing. Also, originally he WAS going to be eating ice cream in the snow, something Renard enjoys doing IRL, but we decided against it in the end since it took the focus away from the character.
Then I made another attempt at the idea and this time and managed to make a rough sketch of almost exactly what Ren had in mind, hooray! Next is the basic routine for any of my digital drawings: refine the sketch, “ink”, flat color, shading, and lastly color and texture overlays. And that’s about it really! Even though it’s a relatively simple image, I just like to show that I DO put thought and hard work into my art on a constant basis. The picture isn’t with out it’s mistakes, but I’m happy with it and the nice cozy winter-y feeling it has <3
The full sized image is HERE and will also be posted at my FA or DA at some point
